Walking, Exploring & Experiencing Germany Together
Founded in 1972, the Stuttgart German-American Wandering Club (SGAWC) is the oldest German-American Volksmarching club in Germany.
For more than 50 years, SGAWC has offered a welcoming and active way to experience life in Germany while taking part in a tradition enjoyed by walkers throughout Europe and the United States.
At the heart of SGAWC is Volksmarching, a non-competitive recreational activity that gives everyone the opportunity to participate at their own pace. Whether it is a short walk through vineyards and villages or a longer trail through forests and countryside, Volksmarching is a wonderful way to discover places you might otherwise never see.
But SGAWC is about much more than walking.
Throughout the year, our members participate in Volksmarch events across Baden-Württemberg and beyond, take part in club-organized bus trips and special outings, gather for monthly meetings and social events, and enjoy exploring Germany and neighboring countries together. Each year, SGAWC also hosts its own International Volksmarch, welcoming walkers from Germany and around the world.

Community & Connection
One of the things that makes SGAWC special is the friendships formed along the way.
The club has long served as a bridge between the Stuttgart American military community and our German hosts, giving members an opportunity to experience local traditions, meet people from different backgrounds, and become part of the wider German Volksmarching community.
You don't have to be an experienced hiker, or even think of yourself as a hiker, to join us. Our activities are recreational and social, with walks offering a variety of distances and no pressure to compete or keep up with anyone else.
Some members come for the walking. Others come for the travel, the camaraderie, or the opportunity to experience more of Germany. Most discover a little bit of all of it.
